Petrochemical Overview
From refineries to distribution terminals to petrol forecourts MEL (UK) Ltd have the experience and
know how to achieve a successful remediation project. Over the last 14 years MEL (UK) Ltd have successfully
remediated in excess of 200 petrol filling stations, many of them fully operational sites on motorways and
busy locations.
This challenging sector involves the implementation of an agreed remediation design with clarity and
constant awareness of site safety and operational issues. In the case of decommissioning of sites there
is a need for tight control of costs as many of these sites are remediated on fixed price prior to
disposal or redevelopment.
One of the new challenges in the petrochemical sector is the need to dispose of ‘tank bottom’ sludges.
Historically this has been disposed of to landfill sites, but now with increasingly stringent regulation
this is no longer possible.
MEL (UK) Ltd have risen to this challenge by developing an infra red heated low temperature thermal
desorption treatment system designed specifically to deal with these materials. This system can be fully
integrated into existing waste management disposal chains at existing sites or can be operated on a stand
alone basis as part of a local treatment centre.
