Former Chemicals Manufacturing Facility, Belfast

This 2ha site housed a former fuel storage and distribution facility. The contaminated land was to be redeveloped for residential properties with landscaped areas and hard standing. Some of the materials on site were not only contaminated but also were geotechnically unsuitable.
2500m3 of contaminated land and sludge’s were excavated and treated using chemical stabilisation techniques. The resulting treated material had CBR values in excess of 15% and was used instead of imported sub-base to the areas of hard standing thus providing a saving to the build contract.
