Domestic Heating Oil Spill, Catterton, North Yorkshire
A corroded fuel tank led to a substantial loss of fuel to the ground. As this occurred during the summer months the problem was not identified until fuel was detected in a nearby watercourse. The fuel being traced back to the damaged tank.
A comprehensive site survey was undertaken using a tracked Geotool unit. Once the extent of the problem had been delineated a series of small diameter extraction wells were installed and connected to a trailer mounted in situ treatment system.
Over a six month period the impacted soil and groundwater were remediated to standards agreed with the Environment Agency. This was achieved with the minimum of disruption to the residents.
