Domestic Heating Oil Spill, Sleaford, Lincolnshire

The original oil tank was situated adjacent to the property and over a period of time it became brittle causing it to split, releasing a volume of heating oil.
The heating oil migrated vertically beneath the concrete slabs and laterally down one side of the property. Significant VOC concentrations were detected within the property.
The concrete slabs and contaminated sub soil was removed and replaced with clean material. The affected brick work was tested and treated in situ using chemical and biological solutions. Soil validation samples were taken from the excavations to validate the works, ambient air samples were taken from within the property throughout the duration of the remedial work and post completion.
The damaged oil tank was removed and disposed and replaced with a double skin tank.
