Domestic Heating Oil Spill, Brimpton, Berkshire
During the construction of a double garage the ground workers accidentally unearthed the heating oil feed pipe with the excavator splitting the pipe work at the compression joint before it entered the property and releasing a significant quantity of heating oil into the subsurface. The fuel spread under the sub floor causing high VOC readings and odour within the property.
To enable the home owner to remain in the property a parallel trench was excavated to the front of the property to collect the free product from under the property using a phase separation unit and skimmer pump.
An extraction system was installed inside the property, to remove the vapours. Air monitoring was undertaken throughout the works thus enabling the home owner to remain in the property whilst in-situ remediation was undertaken using both chemical and biological reagents pumped under the property.
